Biography
Katie Isaac began drawing and painting her environment as a child, using art to process what felt overwhelming into a language she could understand. Diagnosed with dyslexia and autism as a child, Katie describes experiencing her surroundings as though through a magnifying glass, often becoming absorbed in the details of everyday life.
After graduating with First Class Honours in Fine Art in 2012, Katie experimented with a wide range of subjects, styles and approaches. Yet, throughout this exploration, she continually found herself drawn back to the overlooked details of everyday life.
Following a ten-year struggle with her mental health, Katie began to recognise that this fascination with detail and unusual perspectives had been present throughout her artistic practice all along. Rather than fighting her natural instinct for detail, she began to embrace it as a defining part of the way she sees and interprets the world.
Katie continues to develop her practice through painting and drawing, working both en plein air and from her studio in York. Her work explores the unseen, overlooked and unusual, drawing attention to details within the everyday that might otherwise go unnoticed.
